BREAST CANCER

My name is Melissa Grimmond. Nine years ago, while I was a girl of innocence, purity without any wariness of the world. I went to my routine physical and to my dismay a lump was found in my left breast. With great encouragement from my doctor and family I had surgery to remove it immediately. At the time I didn’t think it was a big deal or comprehend the magnitude of what could have happened to me. Now I realize the importance of regular checks and self examination. In addition one should never ignore a result regardless of how minor it may seem, nor minimize breast cancer in very young girls, as it affects women of all ages.
Maya Angelou says “you should not live life with a catcher’s mitt, you need to throw something back” I know many of us think that we can’t afford to make a difference or we just don’t have the time. I learned to crochet, and while watching TV, waiting for an appointment, sitting on set or a train ride, I crochet pink scarves and donate them to Breast Cancer Foundations, like the City of Hope and Save the tatas. I also teach others this skill so they can do the same contribution. I am pleased to know that the donations are used for research, and saving lives one at a time.

Every time I watch my surgery scar, I hear an angel whisper hope “you have a second chance, live your dream.” So today I stand before you living my dream as an actress/ host/ model and writer. I am truly grateful that I can generate awareness for young women to be cognoscente of Breast cancer. Maya Angelo also said “When you Learn. Teach. And when you Get… Give
Today I encourage all of us to do so.
